Rescue Stories

Every animal we help has a story. Some end in a forever home. Some are still being written.

 Home at last

Rose

Rose was about 20 months old when she was found abandoned in the mountains around Lytle Creek in September 2026. She had been used for breeding and then left behind. It didn't take long for her sweet side to show. These days she's all goofy grins and happiest curled up with the other dogs, and she has just found her forever home.

New arrival

Welcome, Harold

Every new rescue needs a welcoming committee. Here's Cole, 9½, saying hello to Harold, our newest arrival. Harold is settling in nicely, whether he's keeping an eye on the water bowl or soaking up chin scratches.

The Girl in the Hills

She was dumped in Lytle Creek with her mother and three siblings in December 2025, and she survived the Christmas Eve flood. Since then, one brother was lost on the road, a sister found a home through a friend, and her mother disappeared. Ten months on, she's the last one left. She comes down from the mountains only to eat, then slips back into the brush, too frightened to let anyone close.

How you can help her: If you spot her around Lytle Creek, please don't chase or try to catch her. Let us know where you saw her, and we'll take it from there.

 Home at last

"Rick James"

She was abandoned in Lytle Creek. A local resident, a true good Samaritan, managed to catch her and kept her safely tied up until Travis and Clair could get there.

From there, we took her in and found her a wonderful new home with help from the S.A.F.E. rescue team. While she was with us, we lovingly called her Rick James, thanks to that haircut.

Negan and Annie

Negan and Annie lost their mom when they were just six weeks old, and the pair were left to fend for themselves.

We trapped them both, and a local family adopted them. Now about six months old, they're living their best life.

A Family Left at the Campground

A mother cat, a father cat and their eight kittens were dropped off outside Applewhite Campground, ten cats with nowhere to go.

We took in the whole family, and every single one of them, parents included, has found a new home.

The Shepherd on the Doorstep

This German Shepherd turned up on a neighbor's doorstep with no one to claim it.

We tracked down the owner and got the dog safely back home.
